There are a multitude of abbreviations and terms that nonprofits use. Below are some of the most common ones used throughout this site: CASAC - Credentialed Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor CCAP - Community Capital Assistance Program CDBG - Community Development Block Grant CSB - Community Services Board (Warren/Washington Counties) CSW - Certified Social Worker DCJS - Division of Criminal Justice Services (operates Alternatives to Incarceration) DHCR - Division of Housing and Community Renewal DHS - Department of Homeless Services (funds our homeless shelter) DMH - Department of Mental Hygiene (encompasses OMH, OMRDD, and OASAS) DOH - Department of Health DOCS - Department of Correctional Services DOL - Department of Labor DSS - Department of Social Services, provides two public assistance programs: Safety Net (individuals) and TANF (families). HCBS - Home and Community Based Services Honor Court - persons facing jail may opt for treatment instead, at the option of the court. HHAP - Homeless Housing Assistance Program HTA - Homeless and Travelers' Aid ICAN - Intensive Corrections Addictions Network: jail-based counseling for the chemically addicted; promotes abstinence. ICARE - Intensive Corrections Addictions Residential Education: jail-based counseling for the chemically addicted. MMIS - Medicaid Management Information Services NYSID - New York State Industries for the Disabled OASAS - Office of Alcohol and Substance Abuse Services OCFS - Office of Children and Family Services OJT - On the Job Training OMH - Office of Mental Health OMRDD - Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities PYHIT - Peter Young Housing, Industries, and Treatment SED - State Education Department. SRO - Single Room Occupancy TANF - Temporary Assistance for Needy Families TBI - Traumatic Brain Injury T.H.E. - Treatment, Housing, and Employment WIC - Women, Infants, and Children, provides food and medical services to mothers with young children Work Release - early parole for inmates on condition of attending a treatment program. Wounded Healer - the philosophy that those who have successfully completed their recovery can best assist those who are fighting addiction. |
