Therapeutic Adolescents Program

The Eleanor Young Clinic has opened an adolescent clinic on Lexington Avenue in Albany in response to concerns for a growing number of young people who are abusing alcohol and drugs, and have few options for help.

Albany County is keenly aware of the problems found in its adolescent population, which numbers 23,000. In the State of the County 2003 Report, it stated that it is time to "develop specific prevention programs targeted to address a particular community's risk factors with regard to adolescent substance abuse, school drop out, pregnancy, and violent behaviors". An OASAS report on risk profiles found that youths in Albany County are at higher risk than in any other county except New York City, including family dysfunction, behavioral problems, street crime, and substance abuse.

Current services include: prevention & treatment, assessment, mental health exams, case management, counseling, nutrition services, and mentoring programs.

Services are open to anyone aged 13 to 17. Medicaid and many other insurance plans are accepted, There is a sliding scale fee offered as well. This program is licensed by OASAS.

Spanish Treatment Outreach Program

Due to the growing numbers of Hispanic people in the Capital Region, the Eleanor Young Clinic has begun offering a wider range of services for Spanish-speaking clients.

Several bilingual staff members have been specially trained to support the following services: weekly support groups for "English as a Second Language", in-house translation services, culturally competent referrals to appropriate outside agencies, gambling counseling, intakes and interviews.

Coming soon (as funding develops) are bi-lingual courses that are tailored to the needs of the Hispanic community, including relapse prevention, medical aspects, co-occurring disorders, support systems, and defense mechanisms.
